2019 Board Nominees

Benefits of Being a Board Member
Board of Directors Position Descriptions

Nominee: Mike Stefonik
Board Position: Vice President, Marketing

Mike is currently the Technical Training Lead at Sonic Foundry, maker of the Mediasite Video Platform. As a one-person training team, Mike is primarily responsible for the customer education programs. However, he also carries the weight of ensuring the organization is offering adequate training to the employees on an ever-changing, complex product.

While Mike has a background in technical and operational training and instructional design, he gets most excited about building up those around him to help them live up to their potential. As a member of ATD, Mike has grown his training skills and connections in the area and wants to give others the kind of experience he has had as part of the training community in the Madison area.

Mike is an endurance sports enthusiast and when he is not training for work he is training for his next race.

ATD has proven to be an important resource to my own understanding of the role of L&D professionals in the workplace, expanded my skillset as a facilitator of learning, and provided great networking opportunities with highly talented colleagues in the community. As VP of Membership, I hope to help provide that opportunity to others!

Nominee: Jan Szmanda
Board Position: Vice President, Technology

After graduating from UW Madison, I discovered the field of talent development in Milwaukee in 2017. With some experience in instructional design, leadership coaching, new hire orientation, & class facilitation, I'm excited to return to Madison and play an active part in the community's TD scene! ATD provides great tools and has introduced me to some of the most passionate individuals/mentors. I knew it was the right organization to dive into from my first conference (ICE) in 2018. As VP of Tech, I'm looking forward to making our online presence even stronger and growing the Madison chapter.
