3 Ways to Become an Even Better LGBTQ Ally

    Thursday, October 15th, 2020
    2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to be inclusive but you weren't sure how to do it? Lisa will give you tools on how to SHOW, SHARE and SHAPE your way to becoming an even better LGBTQ ally. We will SHARE our stories to SHOW how we are more similar than different. As an inclusivity specialist, we will learn how to SHAPE our policies and procedures to promote a thriving culture.

      Facilitator: Lisa Koenecke

Mint makes me sneeze. I love all things rainbow. My goal is to save lives, especially those identifying as LGBTQ+. My wife and I are born-and-bred-cheeseheads. Volunteering is my way to give back to my communities. As the Past President of the Wisconsin School Counselor Association, I continue to train, present and volunteer for WSCA. I have served on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national Board of Directors. Currently, I serve on the Wisconsin Association for Middle Level Education (WAMLE) and who knows where else the wind will take me.

Lakeland University is where I am a Counselor Educator (professor) training the next generation of school counselors, community counselors and higher education counselors. Go MUSKIES!

      Reaching Hard to Reach Audiences

      Thursday, October 22nd, 2020
      8:30 AM - 9:30 AM

      Free Event

In this event, we will define what "hard-to-reach" means at our sites, and exchange challenges and success working with hard-to-reach audiences and non-traditional learners in Leadership/Learning & Development programs. Participants will recognize where program design falls short, identify what impact that has and exchange tips and tricks to include 'tough audiences'.

Most designs and materials for Leadership Development and L&D programs cater to an office crowd. PowerPoints, time management tips and building spaghetti towers work great for some positions, but don't speak to many, specifically those in manufacturing, construction and health care settings.

Google estimates that 80% of the global workforce are 'deskless'. How do you reach the leader who rarely sets foot in an office or minimal computer time, let alone checks email. A Production Lead who doesn't learn well in traditional, instructor-led workshops and regresses to junior high behavior in group activities. How well does your program speak to 3rd shift?

Leadership positions come in all shapes and sizes, yet too many instructional designs, delivery and programs costs exclude "deskless" team members and non-traditional learners.

        Facilitator: Amy Johnson

Amy started her career as a Project Manager of a community health education program in North San Diego County, teaching programs at runaway shelters, nontraditional schools and migrant camps. She went on to pursue her Masters in Counseling at University of New Mexico-Albuquerque where they taught a strong focus was on underserved populations and cultural competency. After a short career in mental health therapy, she now finds herself in a "start up" program at a 95-year old, rural manufacturing company in a county known for poverty and poor health.

        Coaching Techniques For Leaders

        Thursday, November 19th, 2020
        2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

The days of command-and-control leadership as a standard way of managing people are long gone. When managers adopt a coaching mindset and approach it improves employee’s motivation levels and boosts satisfaction with both their job and manager. In other words, great managers are now defined by their desire and ability to grow the people around them. But what does coaching really LOOK like at work? And what if managers don’t know HOW to coach? This interactive and educational session with Certified Coach, Ellen Bartkowiak, from EllenCoaching, will provide an overview of coaching and discuss how leaders can incorporate coaching techniques in the workplace. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss what successful coaching looks like, hear what coaching sounds like, and have time to reflect and process the outcomes with their peers.

          Facilitator: Ellen Bartkowiak

Ellen Bartkowiak is a 20-year career management expert and understands the importance of coaching leaders. She is a sought-after speaker, coach, and consultant and is the President of EllenCoaching, a leadership development firm who speaks to Coaches, MBA students, and Managers around The S.T.R.O.N.G. Method; a mindfulness leadership framework for leaders who lead with Self-Compassion, [positive] Thoughts, Resiliency, Opportunities, Network, and Gratitude. Ellen holds a master's degree in Career Counseling and certifications as an Executive and Leadership Development Coach, Career Management Coach, Brain-Based Leadership Coach, and is a Personal Branding Strategist.
